BANDS & SPEAKERS
DELIRIOUS
Delirious? has always talked about being on a journey, always embracing
change and looking out for direction. In 1992 producer/engineer Martin
Smith (vocals and guitars) teamed up with studio owner Tim Jupp
(keyboards) and graphic designer Stew Smith (drums) to provide the music
for a local event aimed at joining the dots between church and young
people. The blend of Smith's open-hearted lyrics with
the rest of the band's homegrown delivery made immediate sense to those
who saw it firsthand. Things were rough yet soaked in the sweat of
honest enthusiasm, and the band quickly made a name for themselves as
the most exciting band on the UK Christian scene.
At the same time, the North American market was getting ready to embrace
the band. Sparrow Records signed them and kicked off with the release of
their Cutting Edge back catalogue, which eventually went gold.
With that under their belts, the market then got to sample King Of
Fools, which took up lodgings in the Billboard Heatseekers Chart for
eighteen weeks, selling 200,000 copies. The single, "Deeper," performed
a similar role in America to the one it had tucked into back home:
sitting at the very top of the Christian CHR Charts for six weeks. The
band, it appeared, had well and truly landed.
Aiming now for a global audience, the band lined up some key players:
the backing of Virgin Records USA for mainstream releases; the headline
tours in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand,
as well as distribution deals under the wings of EMI. Delirious? became
confirmed as a world-class act--controversial, uncompromising and
committed, but world-class nevertheless.
Nineteen ninety-nine onward saw the band focus on live performances,
playing to over 1 million people in a single twelve-month period,
including fans on UK legs of both Bon Jovi (2001) and Bryan Adams (2002)
tours.
Things really did go global, with audiences including the Pope at the
2005 World Youth Day, world leaders at the Athens 2004 Olympics, and the
biggest crowd of Muslims in Morocco at the 2005 Friendshipfest. In 2006
the escalation around the world continued...twenty-five countries in the
last twelve months.
Now, more than ever, things are personal. A little more broken, a little
more fragile, a little more determined to join the saints as they march
on their knees towards healing and wholeness at the feet of the Miracle
Maker. Now is the time all right.
STELLAR
KART
Stellar Kart has spent the last year and
a half defining, refining, smelting,
hacking, merging, polishing, and
crafting the twelve songs that comprise
their highly anticipated sophomore
release, We Can't Stand Sitting Down. A
quick listen will convince even the most
lead-eared among us that what you are
hearing isn't punk rock music, or power
punk music, or pop rock music, or
whatever other label you might want to
hang on it. It's just great music,
performed by one of the hardest working
bands in Christian music.
PARACHUTE
BAND
2007 will see a new
line-up and sound for
Parachute. Five young
musicians have been
passed the mantle and an
exciting synergy has
quickly formed. All
committed to their local
churches and to
honouring God in their
lives and music, these
boys are the new face of
Parachute. Following on
from where the former
line-up left off, their
passion to influence
their generation through
worship music is totally
authentic and
contagious. With a bunch
of new songs, limitless
energy and hearts that
are all about the things
of God, Parachute are
poised to push
boundaries and take
their worship to a
totally fresh space.
